Laser Sweat Ablation - LSA
- Cure for underarm sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis)

Excessive underarm sweating - or "Axillary Hyperhidrosis" - causes considerable embarrassment. In some people it affects their live so much that they start to avoid certain clothes, certain events - and even going out at all.

Up until recently there was little on offer to permanently stop this condition.

In March 2009, Mr Mark Whiteley, a Consultant Surgeon in Guildford, introduced a new operation called "Laser Sweat Ablation" into the UKMr Mark Whiteley - Consultant Surgeon and first person to perform Laser Sweat Ablation (LSA) in the UK.

Laser Sweat Ablation - or LSA - is a local anaesthetic procedure which destroys the sweat glands in the skin using a laser. Taking about 90 minutes in total, Mr Whiteley marks out the area to be treated using an iodine sweat test, then injects local anaesthetic to totally numb the skin.

Once numb, the laser is used to destroy the sweat glands and the tissue removed with suction.

A compression jacket is worn for 2 day and nights, and most people are getting back to work 3 days after the operation - some even sooner.

Laser sweat ablation costs £3,500 in total - the operation itself is £3,000 but the consultation, sweat test, follow-ups and follow up sweat tests are rolled into one package price of £500.
