The Circulation - the Circulatory System 1

Animation of the circulation in a human or higher mammal - by Mark Whiteley of www.TheWhiteleyClinic.co.uk for Medical Pages - www.MedicalPages.co.ukThe circulatory system is the reason that humans and animals can grow so big and be so active.

Tissues (such and skin and muscle) and organs (such as the brain and liver) need oxygen and food (nutrients). In humans, they need a lot of oxygen and nutrients - and to think and move quickly they need them transferred quickly.

They also need to get rid of the waste products - mainly carbon dioxide and urea - and as large amounts of these are formed during activities such as exercise or fighting, these need to be remove quickly.

The animation on the right shows in a diagrammatic form how the circulation works in a human or higher mammal.

On the following pages, each part of the system is explained in order - and each of the diagrams can be printed off for use in school or college projects if you wish - provided you reference Medical Pages as the source.

Once you have read about each part in turn, it is worth returning to this animation to see how it all fits together again.
