Liposonix - Ultrasound fat removal
- Ultrasound removal of fat without  surgery or anaesthetic

- How does it work?

Liposonix™ uses High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) to destroy fat and fat cells, deep under the skin. Ultrasound passes easily through the skin – as most people know who have had ultrasound scans for babies, gallbladders, varicose veins etc. These scans use low dose ultrasound just to get a picture.

HIFU focuses powerful ultrasound on one point, deep under the skin. At this point, the fat cells are destroyed and the fat melted. The body then removes the dead cells and the liquid fat over 8 – 12 weeks.

The Liposonix™ machine is programmed to move the ultrasound beam in a set way, melting a row of fat cells about 1 cm high and 3 cm long and 3 cm wide. The operator then moves the Liposonix™ head to treat the next section of fat – and so on until a whole layer of fat in the target area is melted.

-
What areas of the body can be treated?

Liposonix™ is still very new and has be proven to work on the tummy (abdomen). As experience of it grows in the UK, we will be moving on to using it on the bottom, thighs and back.

-
Is there any pain?

There is no pain. There can be a mild discomfort, especially when the body starts to remove the fat over the first few weeks after the procedure.

- Are there any injections or incisions?

No – Liposonix™ is totally non-invasive, just like an ultrasound scan.

-
Is there an anaesthetic?

No – there is no need for an anaesthetic.

-
How much fat can be removed?

The amount of fat removed varies from patient to patient. However, research has shown that on average, after just 1 treatment patients lose 2.8 cm (just over an inch) from their waistline after 8-12 weeks. This is equivalent to one dress size for ladies or one belt notch for men.

-
Does the fat come back?

If you don’t put on any more weight, the fat has been destroyed and stays away. However, if you do put on weight, then fat will accumulate in all areas including the areas treated.

-
Can it be repeated in the future?

Yes – one of the beauties of Liposonix™ is that there are no scars. As such, it can be repeated in the future if it is ever needed.

- How much does it cost?

Costs will vary depending on the area to be treated. However, a treatment for the tummy (abdomen) is about £2,000.
